Watch: Mini Cooper falls off car ferry in the Netherlands

A Mini Cooper Cabrio ended up in the water on 12 April at the ferry on Huigsloterdijk in Buitenkaag, Netherlands. Thankfully no one was injured during the incident. The two occupants of the Mini Cooper jumped out just in time before the car hit the water and were unharmed.

According to onlookers, the car had just driven onto the ferry from Kaag Island. As the barrier dropped, the car wasn’t fully on board. This was likely unseen due to another vehicle blocking the view. As the metal ramps of the ferry lifted, the Mini Cooper dangled on the edge before finally plunging into the water.

Due to the recovery operation, the ferry was out of service for several hours.

A recovery crew arrived to hoist the vehicle out. Divers had to locate the car underwater and secure it for towing. The car had only been in the owner’s possession for two weeks.
